Tokyo Gore Police! Beware The Giant Penis Cannon!

The film stars Audition‘s Eihi Shiina as a cop in a near future world where a man made virus has spawned swarms of hideous mutants that must be battled off if humanity is to survive. Tak Sakaguchi from Versus handles the action sequences while noted effects man Yoshihiro Nishimura takes the director’s chair. Nishimura was responsible for the effects in The Machine Girl, Meatball Machine, EXTE, Strange Circus and others.

The script was handled by the writer of cult hit Uzumaki and the film shares a producer with the aforementioned Machine Girl. So … low budget, splattery should be expected.

Now, Nishimura also runs his own make up effects and prosthetics shop and a trip through the official blog there has turned up more than twenty behind the scenes shots ranging from actors in full gear to bins full of severed limbs. If you were thinking that an effects man couldn’t much help but show off when given the chance to direct his own film, these things would seem to back you up. This is going to be an enormously bloody, very violent film when complete …

Severity strikes Pro-gaming

Filed under: misc., Games, Geekdom, Computer, (o.O) — Kei @ 2:11 pm

severity_tn.jpg

December 19th the Cyberathlete Professional League announced they are developing a game specifically designed for professional gaming. The name of the game is Severity and even with that ugly logo this game promises enhanced tournament support, spectator modes and some sort of sadistic… ahm.. statistical module to calculate player’s performance (Unreal Tournament anyone?). The game is set for a late 2007 release.

Is this a good thing at all? When a game model is pushed by one of the big names in professional gaming, does it mean it will become standard? Standards are any formal sport’s foundation but innovation is what drives the gaming industry. Paradox!

Luis Reyes is working on the first sanctioned Star Trek manga, “Shinsei Shinsei,” and says he’s worried that TOS purists won’t approve of highly stylized interpretations of the famous characters.

“I’m a fan,” Reyes said at Comic-Con, but the manga-ka was warned by Star Trek executives, “Those fans will kill you.”

CBS Consumer Products Executive Paula Block is said to have helped keep the fresh manga in line with fan expectations, insisting that Reyes eliminate beads of sweat drawn on Captain Kirk.

“It’s okay with Scotty, but Kirk wouldn’t have freaked out like that.”
