The film stars Audition‘s Eihi Shiina as a cop in a near future world where a man made virus has spawned swarms of hideous mutants that must be battled off if humanity is to survive. Tak Sakaguchi from Versus handles the action sequences while noted effects man Yoshihiro Nishimura takes the director’s chair. Nishimura was responsible for the effects in The Machine Girl, Meatball Machine, EXTE, Strange Circus and others.
The script was handled by the writer of cult hit Uzumaki and the film shares a producer with the aforementioned Machine Girl. So … low budget, splattery should be expected.
Now, Nishimura also runs his own make up effects and prosthetics shop and a trip through the official blog there has turned up more than twenty behind the scenes shots ranging from actors in full gear to bins full of severed limbs. If you were thinking that an effects man couldn’t much help but show off when given the chance to direct his own film, these things would seem to back you up.
