Dept. of Defense investigating sadistic “water bottle” soldiers

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 6:04 pm

Yesterday I posted a video of a sicko jackass soldier in the back of a truck, taunting an Iraqi boy with a bottle of water. It made me sick to see this US soldier laughing derisively at a little kid running as fast as he could for some water. Apparently, the U.S. Department of Defense is just as disgusted, and it is investigating the incident, along with another incident caught in video that shows a soldier complaining that he can’t shoot children who throw rocks at his vehicle:

In the YouTube clip of the truck driver, titled “U.S. military pelted by rocks” a truck convoy is traveling in Iraq while children throw rocks at the vehicles.

“Here is the corner where little shits like to throw rocks at us, According to our first sergeant, we’re not allowed to engage these little bastards. So I’m not going to have my weapon out the window. We’re just going to videotape these little shits basically destroying our vehicles.”

Snowboarding season is upon us, and if you’re making plans to hit the slopes you’re probably also checking out your gear and updating your equipment. So while you’re getting ready to bomb some hills, take a look at the Madison bindings by Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate. Aside from being fashionable, the Madison has a slight asymmetrical shape that contours with the calf muscle, delivering support and comfort designed specifically for women. Add a dash of leather trim around the edges and gel layering around the ankle strap for a cozy fit and you have a smokin’ boot binding that even the boys will envy. But rest assured, this season the Madison’s look is only for the girls. Get ready !

The $100 laptop is now shipping to Brazil and Argentina, and the OLPC developers are taking a fun break. They installed DOOM and have a video of themselves playing it on the OLPC XO (sound is a bit off)

next video shows DOOM carnage with the backlight off and the screen in black and white reflective mode:

Reborg-Q to keep the peace at shopping malls

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 4:03 pm

On November 27, Sohgo Security Services (ALSOK) unveiled a new security system that relies on teamwork between robots and human security guards. The system, called Reborg-Q, will be put into action at AquaCity shopping mall in Odaiba (Tokyo) in mid-December.

The Reborg-Q security robot, which is an upgraded version of ALSOK’s Guardrobo D1, weighs 90 kilograms (200 lbs) and measures 130 x 65 x 70 cm. It can be programmed to automatically patrol a preset course, or a joystick can be used to control it remotely. The robot can also be equipped with a function to control elevators, enabling it to move from floor to floor while making its rounds.
