TGS 07 Operation Darkness

Here’s something I would like to throw out in the blue: When’s the last time you’ve seen a World War 2 tactical turn-based strategy game where werewolves, zombies and vampires were involved in the army and time period? Thought so. Apart from that faux Grindhouse trailer done by Rob Zombie, that concept has not been used as often as it should. Thank god for Operation Darkness showing up in TGS; this game definitely made skeptical journalists go “huh” in a good way.

Published and possibly developed by Success (an offshoot company of Sega), the game is reminiscent of tactical strategy RPGs like Silent Storm, Jagged Alliance and X-Com. Only instead of aliens and disgruntled mercenaries, there are werewolves, soldiers who transform into werewolves, vampires and zombies. Holding bazookas. Shooting down “Godzilla-size” monsters. While dead Nazis rise up as zombies to kill you.

I think I just wet my pants.

GTA Otaku Style

Of all the GTA mods this combination is one of the craziest ones I’ve seen so far, controlling the Lucky Star girls, shooting UZIs akimbo style, fighting armed Pikachu left and right and just when things start getting heavy in comes Doraemon riding on top of Metal Gear. The madness has just begun.

Guge Sues Google Demanding They Change Their Name

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 3:13 am

A Chinese company, Beijing Guge Science and Technology Ltd is suing Google’s China subsidiary for copying its name. They claim that the name is too similar to its own and that it has harmed their business.

They claim that they are constantly disturbed by people phoning their office while trying to get hold of Google. People attempting to contact Google using a local telephone directory assistance service were invariably directed to Beijing Guge as Google’s number is not listed.

“We just want Google to change their commercial name,” Tian Yunshan, a company official, told news agencies on Friday. “We have already passed our demands on to Google… We will see what happens in court.”

The search engine’s Chinese name is a transliteration of the English word “Google” which was also being used in Beijing Guge’s commercially registered name. Guge also means ‘Valley Song’.

The transliteration ‘Guge’ for Google, has been highly unpopular in China. 12,180 people signed an online petition at a new site called Noguge compared to 329 who were in favor of it.

Beijing News reported that the case had been accepted by the Haidian District court but made no mention on whether they would be successful or not. No date was given on when proceedings may start.

When contacting Google, they stated that they were unable to provide any immediate comment and even declined to confirm the case.

Meowlingual: Cat Translation Device

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 2:50 am

Meowlingual, much like the dog version Bowlingual, allows a cat owner to finally learn what their cat is trying to say to them.

So you take the Takara Tomy’s Meowlingual cat-langauge electronic interpretation device and hold it next to your cat as it meows. The palm-sized gadget will then interpret what your cats meows and purrs really mean.

The Meowlingual, coming this November, will run for about $75 and should be purrfect for all you cat lovers.

Man Pulls Vehicle With His Eyelids

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 2:46 am

You can hardly surf the web these days without some reference to someone who is pulling some obscene heavy object with a small part of his body.

Dong Changsheng, is no stranger to great feats having spent over 35 years practicing Kung Fu, he travels around China performing magic tricks.

Below, Dong pulls a car with his eyelids for about 30 foot in the Jilin Province of China. The 44 year-old man credits his ability to accomplish such a challenge to Quigong, a system of deep breathing exercises.

Yup… Breathing Exercises…
