Terrorists invade japan in shipping containers?

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 11:50 pm

Older video clip of a news report about an anti-terror training exercise held by our police. In the exercise, police are confronting international terrorists who have smuggled themselves into Tokyo in shipping containers….

Medium:

almost peed myself from laughing so hard…  how comes there are terrorists in this video and only regular cops?  Where are the guys from the S.A.T. ? They are supposed to deal with terrorists , and dont wait that those “terrorists” fire several rounds into their ballistic shields like the video shows…  is there even one officer returning the fire at this guy with the tiny pistol firing at them? Yeah, right…they just wait until his terroristic attack gets interrupted by having to reload XD …  and that akimbo knife guy was just funny…  felt like watching a bad hong kong movie.

ARGH! Scratched iPod! ..uhm.. scratched iPod?

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 4:23 am

When i unpacked my iPod Touch i left the screen protection sticker thing on the display, because i was like “omg, i have no protective case or similar for it yet, this looks for sure its gonna get scratched easily” after a day of use i already found very thin scratches on that protective sticker thingie just from wearing it in my pocket with some coins … doh! good that i left that screen protection on it i thought….

and then i saw this video and almost fainted

Medium:

i havent expected that the touch screen is actually made of glas o.o ….

so..alright, the front is like almost scratch proof… you gotta need a diamond, or sandblast it..or do something really, really stupid you should get beaten to death with wet towels for… but the back of it is a real scratch magnet, you get it scratched by doing like..nothing. i think i should have pulled off that protection from the front , and slap it onto the back
i dont know if i have to feel dumb for acting so paranoid about getting the screen scratched when the back of it looks like a scratched mirror after 2 days of use….

those companies selling screen protection stickers especialy tailored for the touch´s touchscreen earn a fortune right now with the angst of peoples getting their screens scratched <_<

now i have to find a nice case for it..preferably not to expensive, with a “flip open” front so the screen is accessible

already killed my waranty on it by making it a bit more usefull by applying the jailbreak hack, installing iphone apps… and a ton of 3rd party applications apple doesnt want us to run on their gadgetry mp3 player to turn it into something little bit more handy :p

first Mobile blog post with the iPod touch ive just bought :D
That Safari Browser is just awesome…. It just Lacks Flash Support,
and maybe a way to Import bookmarks with iTunes from firefox…
Or any other Browser. Currently only IE is supported.

Looks like Steve turned into Bill’s bitch After all…

Oh! And something else, converting movies turns out to be a major pain in the Ass,
because QuickTimes Lack of supported Filetypes. I am still looking for an easy Program to rape like every Fileformat out there to iPod playable stuff…  for now im using youtube..  or tvOkay
Hmmm i just realized that Apples Marketing Guys even tinkered with the iPod spellchecker…
it always writes the Word iPod the way they want it to look like

RIKEN creates insulated nanowires

nanowire.jpg

In a development that brings superdense memory devices and molecule-sized machines a step closer to reality, scientists at Japan’s Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) have succeeded in creating 1-nanometer-thick electric wires with a layer of insulation. According to a January 2 RIKEN press release, the researchers grew the insulated nanowire crystals through a process involving a mixture of conductive and non-conductive organic molecules that organized themselves into the desired configuration.

For perspective, 10 hydrogen atoms laid side by side measure about 1 nanometer across, and a human hair is around 70,000 to 80,000 nanometers thick.

While scientists in the past have succeeded in creating nanowires from carbon nanotubes, metals and other materials, a great challenge has been to provide insulation to these microscopic wires so that they can be put to use in integrated circuits without short-circuiting. Another challenge has been to develop technology that enables nanowires to be arranged into regular arrays.

RIKEN researchers have overcome these challenges by developing a nanowire growth process that uses a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivative — an organic molecule that conducts electricity — and non-conductive iodine-containing neutral molecules (HFTIEB), which together self-assemble into crystals that function as insulated nanowires. The researchers, who indicated success in organizing the nanowires into regular patterns, also demonstrated a certain degree of control over the crystal structure, creating two-conductor nanowires and insulation coatings of various thicknesses. The results suggest it may soon be possible to engineer these insulated nanowires for use in practical applications.

RIKEN’s insulated nanowires have the potential to be used as a basic component in superdense 3D storage media that rely on molecular memory arrays, say the researchers, who indicate that memory devices built on this technology would be able to store up to 100 petabytes (100 million gigabytes) of data per cubic centimeter, or about 400,000 times more than today’s typical desktop PC hard drive (250 GB) in a device the size of a sugar cube. If used in logic circuits, this type of wiring technology would revolutionize the electronics industry as we know it, the researchers add.

NHK Attaches Fake License Plate to Private Car, Car Drives Off

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 12:45 pm

NHK was filming a drama in Chiba Prefecture, and to create the illusion that the story was taking place in Okayama, they attached a fake paper license plate to the front of a car in the background of one of the films they were filming:

After some filming, they took a break. When they came back to remove the fake license plate, they found that the car had driven off!

If you find this attached to your license plate, please call NHK and yell at them for their idiocy:

Osaka Police Use 2,240 Officers & 460 Patrol Cars to Catch One Car

Medium:

Police on Thursday arrested a wanted man after a two-hour car chase that involved 2,240 officers, 460 police cars and one helicopter. Hirofumi Fukuda, 27, who had been wanted for assaulting police officers on Jan 21, was arrested after a chase through central Osaka. Around 11 a.m., police received an emergency call saying that a car was driving recklessly, ignoring traffic lights. When a patrol car approached the vehicle in question, it took off.

Police were mobilized throughout the area and a helicopter called in. The chase ended when Fukuda’s car crashed into a bridge column. He sustained light injuries but no one else was injured in the chase.

Splendidly pointless origami re-entry mission

Not the actual design being proposed.

Researchers from the University of Tokyo have hooked up with the Japan Origami Airplane Association for what is quite possibly the most splendidly pointless space experiment of all time - the development of a paper plane capable of surviving re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere after launch from the International Space Station.

The researchers have apparently already begun testing an eight-centimetre prototype in an ultra-high-speed wind tunnel at the University of Tokyo, subjecting it to wind speeds of Mach 7. It’s shaped like the space shuttle, and treated to “withstand intense heat”, Asahi says.

However, since it’ll flutter gently to the ground, the team claims it won’t be subjected to the same kind of heating as a space shuttle returning to terra firma, and shouldn’t burn up in the atmosphere.

Shinji Suzuki, an aerospace engineering professor at the University of Tokyo, said: “We hope the space station crew will write a message of peace on the plane before they launch it. We don’t know where in the world the plane will land, but it would be nice to send a message to whoever finds it.”

No launch date for the peace-mongering origami re-entry vehicle has yet been set

Bah. I liked the terminal theme from Portal so I made it real!

Everything on the terminals and sound is controlled by an Intel 8080 Microprocessor at 2MHz. The sound chip is a MOS SID (From a Commodore 64).
