The world’s rubbish dump: a garbage tip that stretches from Hawaii to Japan

The “soup” is actually two linked areas, either side of the islands of Hawaii, known as the Western and Eastern Pacific Garbage Patches. About one-fifth of the junk – which includes everything from footballs and kayaks to Lego blocks and carrier bags – is thrown off ships or oil platforms. The rest comes from land……
….Syringes, cigarette lighters and toothbrushes have been found inside the stomachs of dead seabirds, which mistake them for food.

The film stars Audition‘s Eihi Shiina as a cop in a near future world where a man made virus has spawned swarms of hideous mutants that must be battled off if humanity is to survive. Tak Sakaguchi from Versus handles the action sequences while noted effects man Yoshihiro Nishimura takes the director’s chair. Nishimura was responsible for the effects in The Machine Girl, Meatball Machine, EXTE, Strange Circus and others.

The script was handled by the writer of cult hit Uzumaki and the film shares a producer with the aforementioned Machine Girl. So … low budget, splattery should be expected.

nineteen.jpg eighteen.jpgthirteen.jpg

Now, Nishimura also runs his own make up effects and prosthetics shop and a trip through the official blog there has turned up more than twenty behind the scenes shots ranging from actors in full gear to bins full of severed limbs. If you were thinking that an effects man couldn’t much help but show off when given the chance to direct his own film, these things would seem to back you up. This is going to be an enormously bloody, very violent film when complete …

Killer Kurage are on the move!

Killer jellyfish population explosion warning

..The really bad news is that the box jellyfish and another equally poisonous species, Irukandji, are on the move….
…perplexed Japanese salmon fishermen are seen hauling in tonnes of box jellyfish in their nets. The few fish they do haul in are writhing in their death agonies after being stung.
An attempt by the Japanese government to protect their fish stocks by wiping out the swarms using a fleet of commandeered fishing boats to drag razor-sharp wire through them backfired spectacularly.
Scientists discovered captured big female box jellyfish were swollen with millions of eggs - far more than they would normally carry. Similarly males were carrying billions of sperm. Trying to kill them had unleashed a breeding explosion because they are genetically programmed to ensure their survival by producing more offspring than normal when under attack….
….The swarms of jellyfish are multiplying in the Western extent of the Pacific ocean and threatening 20,000 miles of coastline off Japan, Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea and Australia

Valentine garlic giri choco?

Filed under: misc. — Kei @ 11:58 am

A company in the Aomori prefecture town of Takko, one of Japan’s top garlic producing regions, is testing the limits of good taste ahead of Valentine’s Day with an unusual product — garlic chocolate. The product, called “black garlic chocolate” contains locally-produced fermented black garlic, covered with chocolate and sprinkled with cocoa powder.

Local company Takko Shoji had been developing the product from the end of last year, saying it wanted people to become more relaxed about eating garlic. After many trials, it was finally able to match black garlic, which has a sweet-and-sour taste resembling prunes, with the bittersweet taste of chocolate.

Boxes containing three of the chocolates are being sold for 600 yen apiece. The chocolates can also be bought over the Internet.

Recipients on Valentine’s Day may worry about how their breath will smell after eating the chocolates, but company officials don’t seem worried.

“If both people eat them, there’ll be no problem,” a representative of the business said.

Japanese fishermen appear to be having a whale of a time down in Antarctica as they resume their hunt for the mammoth mammals, specifically for scientific research - and possibly a sandwich or two.

Greenpeace’s ship has now returned to base having spent several weeks doing its best to disrupt the expedition.

The Japanese fleet plans to kill about 900 minke whales and 50 fin whales by mid-April for what it says is a scientific research programme.

Back in Japan, the laboratory awaits….

The test tubes are under the fancy napkins.

And the scientists are also looking forward to getting down to work….

A chef scientist adds the final touches chemical in a bid to see whether whale blubber can be used in desserts plasma television screens.

Our government still claims to have “…scientific proof that commercial whaling of certain species would not have a negative effect on the species as a whole.”

But try telling that to the whales….

The ongoing research is designed to determine things such as population numbers

choco messaging

Women buying choco for the men. Exactly one month later, on White Day, the men buy cookies for the women, and exactly one month after that, on Happy Day, the choco and cookie companies count their massive profits.

But first up it’s Valentine’s Day. Supermarkets and convenience stores are currently packed to the rafters with choco of every shape, size, taste and price.

The names of the choco can be interesting too. Should any woman want to leave the man of her dreams in no doubt as to her desired intentions, she can message him through the choco

For example, she might very well have the

This is possibly one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen on the Interwebs. I’m sorry for inflicting this upon all of you.

Marvel in wonder at this frolicking man wearing a horse mask and a slingshot mankini as he brews up a batch of shrooms

Medium:

The mushroom is Red Amanita also known as Sacred Soma. It may cause nausea and stomach ache or worse, but primarily it causes hallucinations.

The background music is from Final Fantasy VI i think…
